Welcome To Child Nepal (CN)

Initiating a Child and Youth Friendly Culture

Child Nepal (CN) is a non-political, non-religious, non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to the advancement and protection of child rights, as well as the holistic development of children in Nepal. Established in 2003 by a collective of social activists, the organization is driven by the aspiration to foster a child-friendly culture across the nation. Grounded in the principles and provisions enshrined within the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) 1989, and aligned with the Universal Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – 2030, Child Nepal’s mission and operations are firmly rooted in upholding the fundamental rights and well-being of children. Registered under the Government of Nepal/District Administration Office/Kathmandu (Regd. No. 460/059/060), and affiliated with the Social Welfare Council (SWC No. 14240), Kathmandu.

Partnership established with UNICEF and prepared the child friendly Nepali version of UNCRC with illustrations for the first time in Nepal.

First Shadow Report to the United Nations

Submitted the first shadow report of the Optional Protocol on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography (OPSC) from Nepal to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child.

Representation in United Nations

Represented in the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child for the first time.

Year 2013
Longest Painting Campaign

Initiated the campaign- Longest Painting in Nepal on Peace, Child Rights and Youths.

Year 2014
Representation in United Nations

Represented in the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child for the second time and participated in the 69th Pre-sessional working group meeting.

National Convener

Responsibility of National Convener of Human Rights National Magna Meet and successful completion of the national event

Earthquake Response

Deadly 7.8 magnitude Earthquake in Nepal. Initiated collaborations with We World Onlus, Freedom Matters, UNICEF, The Salvation Mission, Caritas Germany and other development agencies for rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts in Nepal serving 4000 children and their families.

Girls Samvad

Established partnership with EU for “Girls Samvad” project in Nepal serving 2300 adolescent girls.

First Assessment on Urban Slums)

Conducted the first ever comprehensive assessment of child poverty in urban slums and squatters in Nepal.

Ratify OP3CRC Coalition Nepal

Official establishment of Ratify OP3CRC Coalition Nepal being the national coordinator of the network.

Global Convention of Rotary

Participation in the Global Convention of Rotary in Hamburg, Germany

Initiated partnership with PE&D, France for ECD programs to serve 1200 children below 8 years targeting urban slums in Kathmandu

Global Covid pandemic.

Global Covid pandemic. Initiated Covid pandemic prevention programs targeting children in Nepal and served 5000 children.

Partnership with KODDI,

Initiated partnership with KODDI, Korea to serve 144 children with disability under eight years in Nepal.

20th Anniversary

Marked the 20th Anniversary of the establishment of Child Nepal.

How We Work

Child Nepal is expanding its presence and impact across all seven provinces of the country, with operations reaching the provincial headquarters of Biratnagar, Janakpur, Hetauda, Pokhara, Deukhuri, Surkhet, and Dhangadhi. This strategic outreach allows us to work more closely with local communities, governments, and stakeholders to address critical issues affecting children. Our mission is to ensure that every child in Nepal—regardless of their background or location—has access to protection, education, healthcare, and opportunities for growth.
