Child Nepal is committed to ensuring that every child has access to quality education, starting from the earliest stages of development. CN focuses on Early Childhood Development (ECD) and aims to lay a strong foundation for children’s lifelong learning, well-being, and future success. Through various programs and initiatives, Child Nepal strives to create supportive environments where children from vulnerable and disadvantaged backgrounds can thrive.

Importance of Early Childhood Development (ECD)

Early childhood, from birth to eight years old, is a critical period for brain development and learning. Quality ECD programs have lasting benefits for children, including improved cognitive and social-emotional development, better school readiness, and higher academic achievement in later years. Investing in ECD not only enhances individual outcomes but also contributes to broader societal goals such as poverty reduction, social equity, and economic growth.

Child Nepal’s Approach to ECD

Child Nepal implements a holistic approach to Early Childhood Development, encompassing various programs and initiatives to ensure comprehensive support for young children and their families. The programs inclues:

  1. Facilitating Government Policies and Plans

Child Nepal works closely with government authorities to advocate for and assist in the development of comprehensive ECD policies and plans. By collaborating with policymakers and stakeholders, we aim to create a supportive policy environment that prioritizes early childhood education and development. As for evidence, Child Nepal has facilitated in the formulation of Comprehensive ECD Policy/Plan of Budanilkantha Municipality of Kathmandu, Nepal.

  1. Establish and Support of Community/School based ECD Centers

Child Nepal establishes and supports community and school-based Early Childhood Development centers (ECD centers) in underserved areas to provide young children with a safe and nurturing learning environment. These centers offer:

  • Early Learning Programs: Structured early learning programs that focus on cognitive, language, motor, and social-emotional development. This learning programs as based on the ECD Curriculum 2077 of the Government of Nepal.
  • Parental Engagement: CN encourages active involvement of parents and caregivers in their children’s learning through parental workshops, training sessions, and parenting education programs.
  1. Nutritional Support through Day Meal Program

CN provides nutritious meals and snacks to ensure children’s health and well-being. It has been serving day meal to ECD, Basic and Secondary level 600 students every academic year in Nepal.

  1. Free ECD Services for Vulnerable Families

In partnership with local communities and development partners, Child Nepal offers free ECD services to children from vulnerable and economically backward families. This initiative aims to bridge the gap in access to quality education and support children who are at risk of missing out on early learning opportunities due to socio-economic constraints.

  1. Parental Education on ECD

Educating parents and caregivers about the importance of early childhood development and their role in supporting children’s learning is crucial. Child Nepal conducts:

  • Parenting Workshops: CN provides workshops and seminars on child development, positive parenting practices, and creating supportive home environments for early learning.
  • Home Visits: CN conducts home visits to engage directly with families, provide guidance on child care practices, and promote early literacy and numeracy activities.
  1. Sports and ECD

Integrating sports and physical activities into ECD programs promotes holistic development by enhancing children’s motor skills, coordination, and overall physical health. It is collaborating with FIFA Foundation for holistic development of children through football. Child Nepal incorporates:

  • Play-based Learning: CN uses play as a fundamental approach to learning, which supports children’s cognitive, social, and emotional development.
