Child Club Formation and Mobilization

C.No. 13
Child Club Formation and Mobilization
A Concept Note

Background

It's widely recognized that children are the future path finder of the nation.

The urban children in Nepal are enjoying almost all those facilities and opportunities for their development. But, the children residing in rural and remote areas are beyond those facilities. School enrolling children visit schools but those who are deprived from enrolling school and are dropout remain idle without doing any creative deeds. They are unknown about the global affairs and its influence in them. Their ignorance on child rights, CRC, CZOP and many other child issues have made them backward. Thus, the rural children need a platform where they can express their opinion and gain different knowledge and skill.

In this regard, CN puts forward the programme of child club formation and mobilization for remote villages of Nepal. This is an endeavor for child rights promotion and a component of Model Educational Village (MEV) Programme that CN envisions.

Objectives

The overall objective of the programme is to unite all the rural children for child rights promotion and run child concerned activities in their initiation.

Specific Objectives

  • To share the issues of children among the members of child clubs.
  • To promoted HIV/AIDS and Sex education among the adolescents.
  • To boost up the CZOP Campaign
  • To maintain social justice promoting social harmony and peace.

Target Groups

The target groups of the programme are the children of 5-18 age groups satisfying the given conditions:
  • Children enrolling and deprived from enrolling school including dropout.
  • Disable children
  • Socially dominated children that come under the minority groups
  • Extraordinary and talent children
  •

Rationale

Most of the villages in Nepal are remote and far beyond the access of modern means and facilities. Children right there, are ignorant about the worldly affairs and many issues concerning them. They are still unknown about child rights. The children grown up in this circumstance have very less scope. They aren't able to compete with the urban children. On the other hand many children flow to urban areas as street children and child laborers. Thus, child club formation and mobilization is significant in this regard. The sharing about child rights and all other things attached with it make them aware and conscious about their future. It too assists in developing self confidence and ability to cope with any sort of situations. This further helps to retard the trend of child migration in urban areas as street children and child laborers.
Activities

  • Lectures on child rights and other current child issues.
  • Trainings on Child Wall Magazine Publication.
  • Awareness among the adolescents of club members on HIV/AIDS and sex education.
  • Run CZOP and EFA Campaign.
  • Launch programmes on child friendly schools.
  • Conduct dramas on social, superstitious issues.

Expected Outcomes

  • Children will be aware regarding their rights.
  • They will be able to publish Child Wall Magazine in different child and other issues.
  • Adolescent members of the club and outside the clubs will be conscious about HIV/AIDS and sex education.
  • Children will be aware about CZOP, EFA, Child Friendly Schools and other issues.

Child Club Formation

In order to gain certain output from the programme, it must be participatory. The club will be formed as follows:
  • Child gathering of a ward of the targeted VDC will be done.
  • Programme sharing among them.
  • 13 members child club will be formed. The club will include 50 % girl participants and 4 children form Dalit groups.
  • It will be registered in the concerned VDC.
  • Run by the members of child clubs.
  • Physical support from CN.

Sustainability

The sustainability of the programme depends of the child trust run by the club. Certain amount (Rs. 2 from child club members and Rs. 1 from other general members) will be collected monthly. Other measures include the support from community, local schools and donor agencies. The programmes in their initiation will be run under the collected fund.

Monitoring ad Evaluation

A team of 3 members will be formed for monitoring the overall activities of the child clubs. The members include the representative from CN, community representative and chairperson of the child club. A report with the evaluation of its performance will be prepared by the team.
